Zenith Brass Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Free Concert at Oakland University
Zenith Brass will celebrate its twentieth season of brass music concerts at 7 pm, Sunday, May 17 at Oakland University’s Varner Recital Hall. This free concert entitled “Unforgettable Brass” will feature a wide variety of music performed by some of the area’s top youth musicians. Joining the current members will be eight alumni from the classes of 1998 to 2014.
Music ranges from symphonic to crooner, from Tchaikovsky and Beethoven to Sinatra and Hoagy Carmichael. Director Mark Petty says that the concert will contain something unforgettable for listeners of all ages. The program will have an interesting commentary on each piece by the announcer, Petty added.
Zenith Brass is a charitable organization and all donations are tax-deductible.

FLINT — “BRITISH BASH” — The Five Lakes Silver Band invites you to its annual concert assisting the 10th Life organization of Flint, Michigan – supporting the prevention of cruelty to animals. The concert, entitled “British Bash!” will be presented on Friday, May 15th, 2015 at 7:30 PM at Woodside Church, 1509 E. Court Street in Flint, Michigan.
Great selections of British musical favorites are on offer, including William Walton’s stirring Spitfire Prelude and Fugue (honoring the air heroes of the Battle of Britain in WWII), great music of the Tudor era in Music of the Elizabethan Court arranged by Elgar Howarth, as well as Eric Ball’s beautiful Free Fantasia for brass band. Bob Woodard will perform the popular As If We Never Said Goodbye by Andrew Lloyd-Webber (from the musical Sunset Boulevard) on solo Trombone. The British view of classic musical styles from the American film industry will be revealed with Hollywood! by Goff Richards. Even a bit of exciting Celtic dance music will be performed – with the now-classic Riverdance by Bill Whelan!

Five Lakes Silver Band
Founded in 2006, Five Lakes Silver Band is an internationally acclaimed British style Brass Band based in Royal Oak, Michigan. Comprised of volunteer brass and percussion musicians, the FLSB draws its members from music professionals in orchestras, big bands, and chamber ensembles as well as collegiate and secondary music educators from Michigan and the Great Lakes region.
Anyone wishing to apply for a seat on the NABBA Board of Directors may do so using the application on www.nabba.org.
Board members are required to:
– attend two in-person board meetings per year
– assist at the annual Championships event
– participate in online discussions throughout the year
